Stuart Hall: Representation Theory

Stuart Hall Theory Representation is how media present the society or social groups through, - age - gender - religion - ethnicity - Social Crisis - LGBT - Disability In Stuart Hall's theory, he believes that the subject itself that's being shows has no fixed meaning in real life instead, the media is the one who gives meaning of an event/people/groups after the incident. The media may represent these subject in a subvert or conform way, which means that they either go with the existing rules(conform) or against the existing rule(subvert). This is also influenced by stereotype, where the media often describe/show people belonging to a specific ethnic or cultural goods. It's used to help the audience to make sense of the world by simplifying information thus, it's easier for audience to identify, recall and react towards the media being shown.
